College hockey officiating veteran Greg Shepherd joins Mark and Geno for a conversation packed with stories, insight, and a lifelong love of the game. Known throughout the hockey community as “Shep,” Greg brings decades of experience from both sides of the boards, as an on-ice official and a supervisor helping guide the next generation.
Greg’s journey began in youth hockey before he made his WCHA debut in 1978. During 14 years officiating in the league, he worked 10 NCAA Men’s Frozen Fours. He became the WCHA Men’s League’s Director of Officials in 1992 and took on the same role for the Women’s League when it launched in 1999.
Beyond the rink, Greg served in the United States Navy, spent 35 years working for Northern States Power Company, and served four years on the West Saint Paul City Council. His commitment to service runs deep, along with his reputation as one of hockey’s nicest guys.
Expect plenty of hockey talk, an experienced official’s perspective, and stories from a Minnesota hockey lifer who has seen the game from just about every angle. Grab your favorite beverage and settle in with Shep and the Zebras.
